SEASONAL NATURALIST ANNOUNCEMENT
Summary of Position and Duties
The Seasonal Naturalist will teach science concepts to elementary children with the Education Department, possibly teach adult programing, and assist in other activities of the Miami County Park District. The primary responsibilities of the position will be to hike the trails in any given park with their assigned group, teaching children or adults in a fun, creative fashion. Set up and take down opportunities available for programs and you may be asked to drive a park vehicle full of equipment to and from a location. Field work will include but will not be limited to teaching on the topics of water cycle, habitats, types of rocks, landforms, Ohio history, compass, GPS, Earth resources, trees, insects, and watersheds. Willingness to dance and sing in front of groups is helpful. The Seasonal Naturalist may also assist various Park District staff or partner agencies with special events or programs. The position will require some strenuous field activities in demanding outdoor conditions. You will be expected to work several weekend programs in any given year, as well as a consistent 3-5 days a week, during programing seasons. Weekday hours are typically from 9:00-2:00. A valid Ohio Driver’s License is required.
Requirements for Consideration:
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with preference given to individuals having two years of college, an associate degree, or four-year degree in education and or environmental studies/natural history
- Experience working with children or teaching may be considered in lieu of college degree
- Preferably a minimum of one year in a similar position

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION INTERNSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT
Environmental Education Intern Paid internship Summary of Position and Duties: The Environmental Education Intern will assist the Miami County Park District (MCPD) with hands-on, outdoor environmental education programming and experiences. The primary responsibility of the position is to develop and implement exciting environmental learning activities for the MCPD’s Education Department. These impactful programs correlate with school academic standards, promote a connection to nature and teach outdoors ethic for children and the community. The Environmental Education Intern may also assist other MCPD staff or partnering agencies with various public programs, outreach and/or special events. Duties and teaching experiences will vary according to the season. The position will require some strenuous field activities in demanding outdoor conditions. A valid U.S. Driver’s License is required. The Internship Program provides students learning and training opportunities to: advance knowledge and experience in innovative, creative, hands-on outdoor/environmental programming and teaching experiences gain exposure to the daily operations and services of a Park District; develop instructional capabilities along with communication and leadership skills; apply knowledge learned in the classroom to hands-on field experience; be mentored by environmental professionals and explore career possibilities.
Requirements for Consideration
The intern should be pursuing experience in teaching, education and/or outdoor connections. Enrollment in a degree program or college prep courses in teaching, education, environmental sciences, biology, natural resources or related conservation fields is preferred. Intern must enjoy interacting with children and people of all ages. Experience with classroom or group management a plus. Interest and knowledge of natural history is beneficial.
