New Bridge for Creek Crossing
at Charleston Falls
Just in time to beat
the winter freeze, the Miami County Park District is announcing the
completion of a new bridge located at Charleston Falls Preserve over
Charleston Creek at the lower creek crossing. Previously, it was
necessary to use the large stepping stones or wade across. The bridge
starts as you go down the hill from the prairie and then crosses over
the creek. The hiker continues on the Outer Loop Trail that runs along
the creek before the trail climbs to the Lookout Tower on the Thorny
Badlands Trail.
The bridge itself,
constructed by Lavy Construction, is made from treated lumber and
matches the architecture of the other bridges at Charleston Falls
Preserve. The bridge is approximately 30 feet long and is designed for
foot traffic only. The bridge will make it much easier for most of the
public to cross the water here; leaving the stepping stones for the
more adventurous hikers. |
