Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers and NewFound Road

to Headline at the Miami County Park District’s Fall Farm Fest Music Stage

Troy, Ohio (August 17, 2011) – The Miami County Park District announces that Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers and NewFound Road will be the headlining musical acts for their Fall Farm Fest to be held October 8th and 9th.

The Fall Farm Fest is a two day festival held at the beautiful Lost Creek Reserve outside of Troy.  Last year over 9,000 people attended the two day event, a 2,000 person increase over the previous year.  “We anticipate an even bigger turnout this year due to increasing awareness and additional music programming,” says Jerry Eldred the executive director of the Miami County Park District.

New this year, is a second live music stage featuring bluegrass/American acoustic/folk music.  There will be 10 local and regional bands performing over the course of the weekend. NewFound Road will be performing on Saturday, October 8th at 3:45 p.m. and Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers will be wrapping up the festival on Sunday, October 9th at 3:45 p.m. “We are so excited to have these nationally known bluegrass bands at our festival this year,” says Eldred.

“Events like the Fall Farm Fest add to the exceptional quality of life in Miami County.  Thanks to the support of generous sponsors and our levy, we are able to offer this family friendly event to the public free of charge,” says Eldred. The festival offers music, food, hayrides, a scarecrow contest, children’s games, children’s pluck and strum music corner, demonstrations, vendors, display booths, farm animals, Kiddie Tractor Pulls, a pumpkin patch, children’s crafts and more.

This is a free concert no ticket purchase necessary.  Make sure to bring a lawn chair as seating is first come first serve.

Also at the Festival:

  • Dayton Gems mascot will be here on Sunday from 1-4 p.m.
  • Upper Valley Career Center will have a Chainsaw Carving Demonstration on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
  • The Troy Public Library Book Mobile will be here and open from 12-3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday

Joe Mullins and The Radio Ramblers

Joe Mullins is a southwestern Ohio native who has been a recognizable banjo player, vocalist and radio broadcaster for 25 years.  Mullins toured and recorded as a founding member of the band the Traditional Grass until 1995, when he purchased WBZI Radio in Xenia, Ohio.  Mullins recorded and performed with the band Longview, earning Song of the Year and Recorded Event of the Year awards from the IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) in the late 1990’s.  He was honored by winning an Instrumental Recording of the Year award in 2001 from the IBMA for his banjo work on Rebel Record's Knee Deep in bluegrass.  Mullins was also one of many artists in 2006 sharing Album of the Year honors for Celebration of Life, on Skaggs Family Records.  More information on Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers can be found at www.radioramblers.com.

The Radio Ramblers are: Adam McIntosh, guitar/vocals, Tim Kidd, bass, Evan McGregor, fiddle and vocals

Mike Terry, mandolin/vocals.

NewFound Road

NewFound Road has been called one of the most exciting bluegrass bands of the new millennium.  In the past year, the band has shared the stage with a diverse array of artists including Oscar winner The Swell Season, Grand Ole Opry member Joe Diffie, Rock-n-Roll Hall of Famer Mavis Staples, Grammy nominated R&B artist Ryan Shaw, folk icon Judy Collins, and a long list of country and bluegrass artists and legends.

In 2010, NewFound Road made its debut on the legendary stage of The Grand Ole Opry.  The band’s exciting and energetic stage show brought the members a busy touring schedule, playing to thousands of music lovers across the United States during its 2010 touring season – which for NewFound Road, is year round.  Whether playing a bluegrass festival, folk festival, performing arts center, theater, or small club, the band inevitably leaves its audience yearning for more.  The music is powerful and streamlined, featuring hard-driving, soulful contemporary bluegrass as well as achingly beautiful country and pop ballads.

Music critic and writer Robert K. Oermann has stated, “There is not a more soulful singer in bluegrass than NewFound Roads Tim Shelton.”  Shelton, a founder of the band, is surrounded by a compliment of equally impressive musicians.  With a rockstar-like stage presence, Joe Booher continues to dazzle music lovers with his magical mandolin playing. The glue to the rhythm section is Joe’s younger brother Jamey, with his impeccable timing and tone on bass.  The other great stage presence is Josh Miller on banjo, guitar, and vocals.  This group of dynamic young veterans has a live show that features a mix of their time-proven favorites, as well as music that at first glance would seem unlikely fare for an Acoustic/Bluegrass repertoire.  NFR manages to pull it off seamlessly, consistently amazing fans and critics alike.

NewFound Road is touring throughout 2011 in support of their new recording NFR-Live At The Down Home, their third release on the Rounder Records label and their first live recording.  Same Old Place, NFRs previous project, made its debut at #8 on the Billboard Top 10 Sales Chart. More information on NewFound Road can be found at the band’s website http://www.newfoundroad.com/.
